A Humble Beginning
The main reason that drives a DIY lifestyle is not just for lower costs, but the freedom to do things the way we want it to be done and how we want it to turn out. I’ve always found it empowering to be able to do things by ourselves; thus, between extreme tiredness on one of the most significant days in my life and having it designed by someone else, I chose the former.

Having the rustic look in mind, we incorporated wooden materials, mainly teak, and a hint of rose gold. With our own furniture and some props that we had rented for the occasion, I sketched how I imagined the stage to look like beforehand. We set up the stage together on the night before the wedding with the help of some family members and close friends. I then came home and hardly had any sleep as I continued finishing off my own wedding dress as well as the bride’s hand bouquet and headgear arrangement. We took pride in avoiding artificial plants, keeping our decorations natural with only fresh or dried flowers and foliage.

The hand bouquet arrangement consists of carnations, dried wheat, red berries, dried cotton stems, silver dollar eucalyptus and baby’s breath (which is also used for the headgear).
Earlier Preparations
Let’s back up a bit to the conceptual aspect sparked many months before the wedding took place. An element tied to this wedding is the infinity (∞) symbol, which means more to us than just “forever”. The electro-harmonix looper is an essential part of how we found each other in the first place and I find the infinity symbolises a “l∞per” well. It makes sense to incorporate this double-entendre in our wedding.

When deciding for a wedding band, I had two designs in mind. One, an eternity ring with the infinity symbol; two, an open-ended ring of schematic symbols for connecting audio jacks, both in rose gold and diamonds. I couldn’t disregard either one of those equally meaningful ideas, so I thought, why not have them made on one ring? I was thankful that I stumbled upon MC Square Studio who could materialise what I had in mind.

As for the door gift, we wanted to take the chance to spread some earth-loving message by giving out a steel straw set in a cotton pouch with a little bit of screen-printed PSA.

Back to the wedding day, we had a plain naked 3-tier cake (Nutella Indulgence, Belgian Chocolate and Pecan Butterscotch) decorated with fresh flowers.

Tiring but Worth It
It’s not just the planning and the executing down to the very smallest bit, but after all that on the wedding day, we still had to tidy up especially the stage. It was very, very tiring but when we look back to the whole experience, and how it turned out, it was all worth it.
